RMIT collaborates with Epworth HealthCare

More than 50 academics and health industry professionals attended a symposium at RMIT University to launch Epworth HealthCare’s strategic eHealth initiative.
Dr Peter Dohrmann, Executive Medical Director, Epworth HealthCare, gave the opening address.
“The adoption of eHealth is globally recognised as a catalyst for improving quality and safety, managing risk and controlling cost in health care,” he said.
“The ultimate goal of eHealth is to strengthen health systems, support delivery of high-quality care and improve people's health.”
The event also celebrated the recent appointment of Professor Nilmini Wickramasinghe as Epworth Chair in Health Information Management.
Professor Wickramasinghe, from the School of Business IT and Logistics, RMIT, is an internationally renowned researcher and author in the area of health care.
Her activities as Chair will include research, teaching, and providing expert advice under the broad multidisciplinary area of healthcare informatics.
Professor Caroline Chan, Head of the School of Business IT and Logistics, congratulated Professor Wickramasinghe on her success.
“Being appointed as Epworth Chair in Health Information Management is a fantastic achievement that will undoubtedly help to strengthen the collaborative relationship between RMIT and Epworth,” she said.
Epworth HealthCare and the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA, have partnered on an initiative to provide innovative international training and research.
Professor Wickramasinghe’s appointment will help to further strengthen this clinical academic alliance, with RMIT now joined as the third partner in the initiative.
Dr Jonathan Schaffer, Managing Director, Cleveland Clinic, and a practising orthopaedic surgeon, was the keynote speaker at the Symposium.
He spoke about the success that Cleveland Clinic has had in eHealth and discussed how this could be emulated in Australia.
