Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)
The ATAR is an overall percentile ranking reflecting a student’s comparative Year 12 achievement relative to the relevant age group in a given year.
The ATAR is calculated by VTAC solely for use of tertiary institutions to compare students who have completed different combinations of VCE studies.
To qualify for an ATAR a student must:
- qualify for the VCE
- achieve study scores in at least four permissible Unit 3 and 4 VCE studies, including one from the English group.
Only those students who apply for tertiary entry through VTAC will receive an official ATAR statement from them.
ATAR calculator
RMIT University has an ATAR calculator that you can use to help determine whether your ATAR score is sufficient for entry to an RMIT program based on last year’s clearly-in ATAR.
A link to the ATAR calculator, which is currently being updated with 2012 clearly-in ATAR data, will be available soon from this page.
