RMIT University students are gaining practical experience in the healthcare industry through collaboration with Epworth Hospital.
Students undertaking the course, Healthcare Information Systems, are working on a post-implementation review of a digitally scanned medical records system recently implemented at Epworth Eastern campus in Box Hill.
The review has given students first-hand experience of the barriers, facilitators, strengths and challenges that exist when migrating to an electronic approach within a healthcare context.
Jenny O’Brien, Epworth HealthCare’s Chief Clinical Information Officer, said: “The review provides objective insight into the project outcomes and is an opportunity to apply learnings to future initiatives.”
Healthcare Information Systems is new postgraduate course designed by Professor Nilmini Wickramasinghe and offered by the School of Business IT and Logistics.
Professor Wickramasinghe said the collaboration was an exceptional learning experience for students and Epworth staff.
“This is yet another way to ensure that RMIT programs are practical and industry-relevant,” she said.
“The School is very grateful to Epworth for giving us this opportunity and we look forward to collaborating with them in the future.”
