1. New project proposed: - New buildings - Alternations to existing buildings

Project Manager provides OHS Consultant, People and Culture with details of the project

2. Employer representative and health and safety representative discuss the proposed project and develop a plan of how employees will be consulted during the project. The Employer representative and health and safety representative meet with employees and advise of the proposed project and consultation plan. The Employer representative and health and safety representative seek input from employees for the design requirements.

Project Stakeholder Group Employer representatives and health and safety representatives consult with employees during the life of the project in accordance with the agreed consultation plan

3. Project Manager is briefed by the client of design requirements for the new building or alterations

4. Project Manager develops preliminary sketch and project plans

5. The Project Manager calls initial safety review meeting with the Project Stakeholder Group: The Project Stakeholder Group will include the following people:

  • Client
  • Health and safety representative (s)
  • Employer representative
  • Chair of Health and Safety Committee
  • Project Manager, Property Services
  • Client Relations Manager, Property Services
  • Any other relevant stakeholder as required (adjacent work areas, maintenance reps, student)

Note: Specialist health and safety advice can be sought by the Project Stakeholder Group as required or recommended by OHS Consultant, People and Culture.

Additional safety review meetings held during project as required.

6. Project Manager finalises building and project plans incorporating issues raised/agreed upon at safety review meeting.

7. Project Manager calls a pre-demolition/construction safety meeting to outline public/staff/student safety precautions attended by Project Stakeholder Group.

8. All contractors undertake RMIT Contractor Induction and any other site specific induction required by the Project Manager.

9. Project commences

10. Project Manager reviews safety performance at site meetings with contractors as required. Project manger reports on safety performance to Project Stakeholder Group.

11. Project completed.

12. Project Manager calls a safety sign off meeting with Project Stakeholder Group.

Project Manager follows up on outstanding or ongoing safety issues and reports to Project Stakeholder Group Employer representatives
