Biotechnology and Biological Sciences
Whatever area of Biological Sciences interests you, from genes to environmental biology the Biotechnology and Environmental Biology Sciences discipline has something to offer.
Research projects span from the biotechnology of infection and disease and food microbiology to the microbial ecology of aquatic and marine systems. An emerging focus is the application of plant molecular biology techniques for biofuel production and genomics. Research is interdisciplinary in nature often involving teams from across the School of Applied Sciences in which postgraduate research plays a key role.
Extensive state of the art PC2 laboratories with control glass houses and walk-in growth rooms are well equipped for advanced molecular biology and genomics. Two commercial companies Orica and Bioproperties also work in close association with this discipline.
In addition to flagship programmes in Biotechnology and Biological Sciences the discipline also contributes to the wider suite of programs embedding in the Applied Sciences multi-major as well as hosting a very popular set of biotechnology master’s programmes. Many of its courses are now available through Open University Australia.
