Dr Ziggy Switkowski – Chancellor

The Council is the governing authority of the University and is responsible for ‘the direction and superintendence of the University’. The role of Council is set out in the RMIT Act 2010 (PDF 756.9kb 69p) and it is this Act that defines the objectives of RMIT University and the Council’s statutory responsibilities. The Council is chaired by the Chancellor, Dr Ziggy Switkowski.

In September 2003, RMIT Council adopted a Council Governance Charter (PDF 36kb 5p) which sets out the responsibilities of Council, Council members, the Chancellor and Chairs of Council Committees. In December 2005 Council adopted Corporate Governance Guidelines which summarised Council’s approach to corporate governance. In 2012 Council’s annual review of the Charter and Guidelines merged the Guidelines into the Charter.
