Higher degrees by research (HDR) resources

The Research resources page provides an introduction and orientation to the PhD program within the School of Property, Construction and Project Management (PCPM). It is intended to answer some of the questions posed by potential students and those already enrolled. You will probably read much of this material once and get a lot of value out of it. However, while much of this document will make immediate sense to you, other parts will make little sense at all until you have been undertaking the program for some time. Don’t worry, just accept the parts that make immediate sense and accept that other parts will make sense later.

The welcome guide is structured as follows:

  • The most immediate issue to address is answering the question ‘why should I invest my time and money in undertaking this program?’ The first section of this guide attempts to answer that vital question.
  • Further questions ‘what kind of investment does the PhD entail? and ‘what returns should I expect to derive from achieving it?’ are then addressed.
  • You may want to know what the experience will be like, and what you can do to help you to prepare.
  • You may also want to know about the kinds of support that you will need. This is addressed by looking at the support available and the required support you will need to be proactive in creating great research.
  • What can I expect from my PhD journey? This section will detail the stages of the PhD journey, identifying the key transitions that are made in a PhD.
  • The final questions addressed in this guide focus on the accountabilities, the outcomes and the outputs? Putting into context the summation of the PhD Journey.

Industry

Employer of Choice program

Property, Construction and Project Management have a program called the Employer of Choice. This program is designed to engage industry in a number of areas throughout the school including work experience, jobs, guest speakers, mentors, scholarships, graduate programs and award sponsorship.

As part of the program you will receive job opportunities to your student email and event invitations. Once you finish your degree you can sign up to the Employer of Choice alumni to continue receiving the emails.

Ejobs, Careers and Development

RMIT University's central Careers and Development Unit has an online job board. You can log in and search for jobs relevant to your career here. This is separate to the Employer of Choice Program and is centrally run. The Careers and Development Unit also has online handy hints for interviews and resume writing. You can book in with a Careers Counselor to have your CV reviewed. We recommend doing this.

Industry and Research Awards Night

Each year we hold an Industry and Research Awards Night. The night both showcases student work and rewards students with the highest Grade Point Averages (GPAs). Students in their 4th year will showcase posters from their Research course and students from each year group with the highest GPA will be invited to be presented an award sponsored by our industry partners.
