The Red Door project combines the resources and skills of RMIT School of Media and Communication (Music Industry), Bennetts Lane Jazz Club (Bennetts) and the Melbourne Jazz Co-operative (MJC) to bring to students, musicians, and audiences of jazz music benefits that neither one can bring alone. To students, the ability to have a thorough real-life experience of a complete live recording project from establishing and researching a professional client to furnishing a final mastered document for broadcast is an opportunity few other recording schools can boast.
To musicians, the advantages of being recorded live for broadcast at no cost whilst also retaining all rights to publishing the works is a certain boon. And for jazz audiences, the ability to make informed choices about which projects, musicians and music they enjoy or are interested in and to be involved as an audience in the global distribution of live Australian jazz, is a definite benefit. The strategic alliance of these four parties promotes the development and innovation of live Australian jazz in such a way that rewards all music makers and listeners.
