Tiger Airways staff trained by RMIT
RMIT University is providing $50,000 worth of advanced training to senior Tiger Airways staff.
The training of 24 staff involves mainly senior pilots, cabin trainers and safety and quality-related senior ground crew.
Two of three courses, which started earlier this year, have been completed, with the remaining course to be completed by the end of this year.
The courses are being delivered by Neil Boag, Chief Pilot and Chief Flying Instructor, at the University's Flight Centre at Point Cook, Melbourne.
He said that eight of the Tiger staff involved were training and checking captains, the experienced captains that check the competency of all Tiger pilots, cabin trainers and senior ground crew.
"The training and checking captains are being trained in nationally recognised, industry standard training qualifications designed for aviation-related instructors," Mr Boag said.
"The Australian standard for workplace training, the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, has been integrated into the program."
Mr Boag said he was impressed with the competency of Tiger Airways staff.
Captain Dean Marshall, Head of Training and Checking at Tiger Airways, said the training was part of the airline's quality improvement program and Tiger was now discussing with RMIT the possibility of a permanent training program at Point Cook.
In Australia, Tiger operates 10 Airbus A320 aircraft with a single-class configuration of 180 seats.
