Policy
Intent
This procedure states the RMIT policy on Joint Awards and defines the terms within which such Joint Awards may be made.
Policy
It is the policy of RMIT that a Joint Award of RMIT and another institution or institutions may be made according to the rules approved from time to time by the Board. (Approved by Council on 23 May 1994.)
Board rules
In order to be acceptable to RMIT :
- the program leading to the Joint Award shall be developed as a joint award by RMIT in conjunction with the other institution.
- the other institution shall be an educational institution authorised to make awards to the same level as the Joint Award, but not necessarily in the same discipline as the Joint Award.
- the other institution shall make a significant contribution to the teaching of the students who receive the Joint Award. This contribution shall be at least 25% of the total program.
- by mutual agreement, the program leading to a Joint Award may be offered also as a conventional, 'single' award. This would be at a location other than that where the program was offered for the Joint Award.
- the other institution shall be one of appropriate status recognised by the Government of its own country, having educational objectives appropriate to the program leading to the Joint Award.
- the RMIT Joint Award parchment shall be a standard RMIT award parchment with a minimum of modification to include reference to the other institution.
