If you’re looking for a pathway toward the Master of Computer Science, or the Doctor of Philosophy (Computer Science), this research certificate is the right way to go.
You’re required to formulate your own research topic, one that broadly conforms to the research interests of our School of Computer Science and Information Technology.
To complete this program, you’ll need to submit your minor thesis or project for critical review by a panel of experts in your field of study.

Learning and teaching
RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, seminars, studios, workshops, presentations, group discussions and syndicate work. These are primarily in English.
You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the myRMIT student portal.
Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments.
Program structure
This Graduate Certificate in Computer Science Research involves some coursework (Research Methods) and a publishable minor thesis/project of 20 - 50 pages.

Entry requirements
You must meet the University entry requirements for this type of program.
If you satisfy the following requirements you will be eligible for selection; however, there is no guarantee that you will be selected as demand for the program varies each intake.
Program entry requirements
The basic criterion for selection is that you have significant experience in computer science, like an undergraduate degree, a postgraduate coursework degree and/or work experience. Experience is assessed by the School, via email or in-person interviews.
Students who have research experience should consider the MR047 Master of Computer Science (Research) or DR089 Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science programs.
Other requirements include:
- GPA of 3.0 and above
- consistently good grades
- strong programming background
- preferably a strong computer science background, though not necessary.
