Steps for the development of new programs

Steps

Note: This also includes the addition of a new stream (a new specialisation) to an existing program, a dual award or a double degree.

Step 1

Head of School presents the Program Proposal (Strategic and Business Case) to Academic College Executive for endorsment. A Program Proposal (Strategic and Business Case) is used for new program/s, or to add a new stream to existing program/s

The Program Proposal provides the rationale for the new program and provides data to support an evaluation of the strategic and business case for the new program

Step 2

  • The School notifies ARG (Course and Program Administration) and the Secretary of Policy and Programs Committee (for noting only) of the intention to develop a new program, using the Notice of Intent proforma
  • ARG (Course and Program Administration) will notify you of the new program/plan code
  • PVC (Academic) presents the Program Proposal (Strategic and Business Case) to VCE (via VPR) for approval as part of the profile process

Step 3

The program development team prepares:

  • The Higher Education Draft Program Details Form (program structure)
  • The HE Course Form (for any new or amended courses)
  • Send the Higher Education Draft Program Details Form and the HE Course Form to ARG (Course and Program Administration)

Step 4

  • ARG (Course and Program Administration) will create/amend any new or amended courses and upload the amended program structure into PeopleSoft
  • ARG (Course and Program Administration) will advise the program development team the structure has been created
  • Program development team will create a ‘New Draft’ and ‘Refresh’ the Program Guide within the system

Step 5

The School prepares documentation in the form of a Program Guide within the Program Guide System together with Course Guides Part A: Course Overview

The Program Guide is written for students and provides information about the program structure, capabilities that they will develop, rationale for these, and how they will evidence their achievement and the educational pathways including programs from which students may enter and to which students may progress

Step 6

Draft Program Guide and Course Guides Part A: Course Overview are submitted for approval to relevant Academic Development Committee, and College Board by the dates prescribed. The College endorses the Program Guide in the Program Guide System

Step 7

The endorsed Program Guide and Course Guides Part A: Course Overview are submitted to Policy and Programs Committee and Academic Board for endorsement

Step 8

Council approve the endorsed Program Guide at the request of Academic Board

Step 9

ARG (Course and Program Administration) then approves and publishes the Program Guide within the Program Guide System. The published Program Guide will then be visible on the web page at Handbook (program guides)

Step 10

Course Guide Part B: Course Details are updated according to the university calendar
