Project overview

The Electrical Trades Union has requested that their members undergo renewable energy training with a view to increasing their engagement with industry.

Renewable energy competencies are part of the new Electro technology training package and the equipment will be used in the electrical apprentice training program.

The roof of Building 57 will be used for the installation and wiring of solar panels and hot water units.

This project is funded by the Australian Government through the Teaching and Learning Capital Fund (TLCF) for Vocational Education and Training (VET).

April 2010

The decking, metal fencing, electrical fit-off, plumbing fit-off and roofing tiles are now completed.

May 2010

The Renewable Energy Training Facility is now complete.

December 2009 – April 2010

  • Currently managing construction.
  • Steel erection almost complete
  • Decking complete
  • Marshall box room fit out, in construction
  • Currently managing electrical works to completion.
  • Revised practical completion end April due to inclement weather.
  • The installation of concrete pads and waterproofing to roof membrane are now complete.
  • Structural steel is being laid on the concrete pads on the roof.

New Solar Technology Facility

Staff and students from the School of Engineering TAFE (SoE TAFE) along with industry electrical inspectors, got their first glimpse of the new solar technology training facility located on the rooftop of RMIT’s Building 57 recently.
