Spatial Information Services and Surveying – Prospective students

Scott Davidson - Ex Student.
"I like the flexibility of the course because you can take it in stages through the different Certificate levels and the Diploma and Advanced Diploma. You can exit at any level if you didn't like it or wanted to work, and still have something tangible so it wasn't a waste of time."

Jamie Buchanan - Traineeship at VicRoads.
"I initially joined with an 18 month contract and it was 12 months doing surveying. Meanwhile, during this time they paid for me to go to Uni- er, well paid for the TAFE course. So, it was initially a 12 month rotation and then two lots of 3 months where I not only did surveying but I went 3 months to design; worked in design and then 3 months in Geopave geotechnical specialists, part of Vic Roads where we tested dirt and pavement"
Spatial information skills gained in RMIT University will set you up for a career full of challenges and variety - a career you can take with you to any part of the world.
The challenges exist in using cutting edge software and operating technically advanced equipment, while the variety is present in the combination of indoor computer work and enough time away from the desk to enjoy the outdoors and to go places most people will never see.
As a bonus, your skills will open up employment opportunities in a diverse and huge number of fields that depend on spatial information.
Currently job opportunities in the spatial information industry are abundant and employees are crying out for staff with the skills offered through tuition in RMIT University’s spatial information courses.
The full time courses are delivered over the first three days of the week. The remaining two days are used by most first year students and all second year students for work experience in the surveying industry. On completion of the Advanced Diploma, all students find full time jobs in the industry.
The major project activity will require students to undertake research and development within the spatial information services (SIS) area.
