Student profile – Wei Loong Tan

Program: Bachelor of Computer Science

I wanted to study a Bachelor of Computer Science as I had developed a strong interest in information technology and computer science. I chose RMIT as it had the reputation of being one of the best universities in Australia for computer science programs.

I believe that my degree from RMIT will give me a head start in getting the type of job I want, in a company that nurtures and takes care of its employees. I want to work somewhere that recognises individual achievement, rather becoming just another entry on a list of employees.

During my degree, I completed an internship with PwC Malaysia for 2 months. It gave me exposure to the world of professional work and workplace culture. I was also able to gain an insight into different business solutions implemented by various firms.

Meeting a range of new people who share the same passions as me has been one of the highlights of my studies. I’ve had the opportunity to improve my communication and teamwork skills, which are important to have.

I’m the IT Director for the Malaysian Students Association at RMIT. Working with other committee members and attending events have helped to make my university experience great. It’s important to socialise as well as study!
