Counselling
If you study at RMIT, know that you can receive professional counselling any time—without a doctor’s referral or diagnosis. Our counsellors understand the psychological issues that students face while studying, for example, adjusting to life at uni.
Our counsellors help can help you to:
- develop coping skills
- improve academic performance
- learn to resolve conflict
- manage study and exam stress
- adjust to living away from home
- adapt to life changes such as relationship breakdowns and family issues
- behave and communicate appropriately in classes
- cope with a mental illness and/or other disability
What if our counsellors cannot help?
If we cannot help, we can refer you to other specialist services.
If this happens, we always discuss the referral with you, and if appropriate, continue to meet with you until a referral is organised.
We can also make enquiries for services in rural and regional Victoria, interstate, and sometimes overseas.
Confidentiality
All counselling is confidential as set out in the Health Records Act 2001. This act also governs our record keeping, release of information, privacy and confidentiality procedures.
